K-State Set for Friday Showdown at Bradley Pink Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off of a three-week break since its last competition, the Kansas State cross country team heads to Peoria, Illinois, to compete in the Bradley Pink Classic at the Newman Golf Course on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats’ final competition before the Big 12 Championship will begin at 3:30 p.m. CT with the women’s 6K race, followed by the men’s 8K race, which is slated to begin at 4:15 p.m. CT.

“We have had a couple of weeks to prepare for this weekend and I believe we are making good progress,” head coach Ryun Godfrey said. “I am looking forward to Friday afternoon. It is a good field and should be a very competitive race for both the men and the women.”

K-State competed at the Bradley Classic last season, posting two strong results in its final meet before the Big 12 Championship. The men went on to finish in 10th place in the meet, while the women recorded their second-straight top-five finish of 2015 with a fourth-place finish.

The 2015 outing in Illinois saw Morgan Wedekind earn her third top-5 finish of the year as she led all Wildcat runners with a fifth-place finish. Her time of 20:34 was the fourth-fastest time at the course in school history. On the men’s side, Colton Donahue led the men with a 24th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 24:30, the fastest time at the course in school history.

In the Wildcats’ most recent competition, the Cowboy Jamboree, Wedekind continued to post dominant results, finishing in fourth place with a final time of 18:26.8 to post her third top-five finish in as many races. Her efforts in Stillwater saw her earn Big 12 Runner of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Donahue led the men’s side, posting a 12th place finish with a time of 26:30.8, while fellow junior Bryan Zack crossed the finish line five seconds behind him, posting a final time of 26:35.2. Both the men and women finished in third place overall for the second-straight meet.
