K-State Staffers Receive National Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State Athletics Communication and Fan Experience and Sales departments recently received a total of 14 national honors for excellence in 2015-16 from their respective organizations during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) national convention in Dallas, Texas.

The Athletic Communications department earned "Best in Nation" distinctions in six categories from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) including: football media guide, women’s basketball media guide and cover, men’s basketball media guide cover, volleyball poster and the rowing poster.

The Athletic Communications department, under the direction of Associate Athletics Director for Communications Kenny Lannou, received a total of 13 accolades from CoSIDA for their outstanding publication work in 2015-16 during their annual convention, June 12-15, in Dallas. The 13 honors were the most in the nation in the University division during the 2015-16 academic year.

Over the last 11 years Kansas State's publications have reached impressive heights in national judging with 27 media guides earning Top 5 national honors and 40 being named among the top three in the district.

The posters, as well as the covers for each of K-State's media guides, were produced by Graphics Designer, Ron Cook. Over the last eight seasons, over 30 K-State sports posters designed by Cook have been judged among the Top 10 nationally.

The 2015 football guide was written and designed by Assistant Director of Athletics Communications, Ryan Lackey and Lannou. This is the first “Best in the Nation” honor for the football media guide since capturing consecutive “Best in the Nation” honors in 2005 and 2006. The “Best in the Nation” honor for the football media guide joins the Football Writers Association of America recognizing the department with its “Super 11” honor earlier this summer (click here).

The 2015-16 women's basketball media guide was written and designed by Assistant Director of Athletics Communications, Randy Peterson, while the cover was designed by Cook and Peterson. This is the second straight year the women’s basketball media guide has been named “Best in the Nation.” Peterson was also second in the nation in 2015-16 for his women’s basketball game notes in the Winter Sports Game Notes category.

The 2015-16 men's basketball guide finished second in the nation and was written and designed by Associate Director of Athletics Communications, Tom Gilbert. The cover of the men’s basketball media guide was designed by Cook and Gilbert. The men’s basketball poster, produced by Cook, also finished second in the nation.

K-State received the Bronze award in the New Revenue Generation category of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) ‘Best of’ Awards for the creation of the K-State Soccer Founders Club.

The club was developed to engage fans in a grassroots campaign to help support Kansas State’s newest athletic program. The Founders Club currently features nearly 1,200 members from 38 states and has raised more than $120,000.
