K-State Ties for Seventh in Oklahoma

NORMAN Okla. – Paced by Madison Talley’s final-round score of 5-under par 66, the Kansas State women's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place with a 36-hole score of 13-over par 581 in the weather-shortened Schooner Fall Classic on Monday at the par-71, 5,901-yard Belmar Golf Course. K-State turned in a 3-over par 284 during Monday’s final round after carding a 10-over par 294 in round one on Saturday.

Talley’s round of 66 on Monday was the second lowest in school history behind Christine Boucher’s total of 64 in the 2002 Edwin Watts Invitational. The junior finished in third place at 6-under par 136, marking the third top-five finish of her career.

“This was a great event for Madison,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “I am very proud of her. We were looking to move up today. There was a rough stretch during the round and it slowed us down, but we held on for a solid finish. They kept playing and competing and that’s what it takes when the going gets tough.”

Sophomore Connie Jaffrey ended competition at 3-over par 145 and finished in a tie for 30th, while senior Scotland Preston tied for 33rd after carding a 4-over par 146. Junior Paige Nelson finished with a 15-over par 157 to tie for 59th, and junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol completed play in 62nd at 16-over par 158.

Oklahoma State won the team title by firing a 14-under par 554, seven shots ahead of Texas A&M. Kansas’ Yupaporn Kawinpakorn won the individual honor with a final score of an 11-under par 131.

K-State will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday as it heads to Columbia, Missouri, for the Johnie Imes Invitational at Club at Old Hawthorne.
