K-State Ties for Third in Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Kansas State women’s golf team jumped up two spots to finish in a tie for third following the final round of the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Tuesday. The Wildcats finished the event at even-par 864 after a second-straight round of 4-under par 284.

Three Wildcats finished in the top-20 with junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol and sophomore Connie Jaffrey leading the way in a tie for 10th at 2-under par 214. Gravel-Coursol carded her first top-10 finish and shot a career low 54-hole score.

Junior Madison Talley moved 14 spots up the leader board in the final round to finish tied for 20th with a 1-over par 217. Talley was able to bounce back from a 4-over par in round one by recoding two-straight under par rounds.

“It was a strong finish with three players under par today,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “At one point yesterday we were tied for 11th, so to stay poised and turn it around to tie for third is a great job by the ladies.”

Junior Paige Nelson finished at 5-over par 221 to tie for 33rd place, while senior Scotland Preston ended the event tied for 61st at 11-over par 227. Playing as an individual, freshman Chloe Weir shot a 13-over par 229 to tie for 65th.

Missouri won the team title by firing a 39-under par 825, 25 shots ahead of Middle Tennessee State. The Tigers’ Jess Meek won the individual honor with a final score of a 15-under par 201.

K-State will be back in action Oct. 6-7, as it heads to Sammamish, Washington, for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club.
