K-State Wraps Up Regular Season in Texas

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Heading into its final tune-up prior to the Big 12 Championship, the Kansas State women's golf team is back in action as the Wildcats head to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Red Raider Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at the par-72, 6,541-yard Rawls Course. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Friday followed by 18 holes on Saturday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., each day.

“We are looking forward to playing The Rawls Course in Lubbock after finishing off strong last week,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said, whose team is playing at in Lubbock for the first time since finishing fourth at the 2009 Big 12 Championship.

Five members of the K-State squad will be competing in the event with Madison Talley, Katherine Gravel-Coursol, Paige Nelson, Connie Jaffrey and Chloe Weir making up the scoring lineup. It is the third time this season K-State has used this lineup.

Talley, who leads the team with a 73.50 stroke average, paced the squad in the team’s last outing, the SMU/DAC Invitational. Talley carded a top-20 finish for the 13th time in her career and fifth time this season with a score of 7-over par 223. The team notched a tie for seventh place after moving up four sports in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 44-over par 908.

Along with Talley, Jaffrey and Gravel-Coursol are also averaging around 75 strokes per round as Jaffrey’s stroke average sits at 74.61 and Gravel-Coursol is at 75.07. Weir, a freshman from Belfast, Northern Ireland, moves back into the scoring lineup after competing as an individual earlier this week at the Kansas City Shootout where she finished in 11th place.

Kansas State will be joined in the Red Raider Invitational by 13 other teams, which includes five teams in the top 40 nationally according to Golfstat and two Big 12 teams. The squads competing at The Rawls Course this weekend are Cal Poly, No. 29 BYU, Colorado State, Iowa, Kansas, No. 38 New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, No. 36 Purdue, No. 37 SMU, Tulsa, Texas State, No. 28 Texas Tech.
