Letter from A.D. John Currie - February 27

Later today, we will release our 2015 football ticket plans and ordering information.  We are grateful to our fans for making the investment of time and resources to produce our current 20-game home sell-out streak and look forward to extending it to 27 games this fall!  You'll notice that we will continue to offer a wide variety of both season and single game price-points to ensure that our games are as accessible as possible to our fans.  In order to continue to make progress toward our Vision of a Model Intercollegiate Athletics Program we will, for the first time since 2011, have small increases in price to many of our ticket packages although we will still be offering season ticket packages for as low as $18 per game.We are also pleased to announce a few future football games, highlighted by a series with SEC member Vanderbilt.  Here is an update on our work to fill out the non-conference portion of our schedules through the 2020 season.  Coach Snyder, Chief of Staff/Football Administrator Clint Dowdle and I have several primary goals in scheduling, including having as many early-season home games as possible; at least 11 FBS opponents on the schedule each season; attempting to include an open date during the regular season; and to create opportunities to further our program and University on a national level and put us in a solid position in regards to the new College Football Playoff system.Earlier this fall we announced our 2015 schedule which includes non-conference home games against South Dakota and Louisiana Tech and a trip back to San Antonio's Alamodome to play UTSA.  For 2016, we are currently slated to host Missouri State and Conference USA member Florida Atlantic in Bill Snyder Family Stadium, and since we will have four conference home games in 2016, we are in search of one final home non-conference opponent so that we will have our preferred seven games in Manhattan. The 2017 season will begin a home-and-home series with Vanderbilt as the K-State Nation will head to Nashville with the Commodores making a return trip to Manhattan in 2020.  Other 2017 matchups include Central Arkansas and Charlotte, which in 2015 will officially join Conference USA as an FBS member and is coached by K-State graduate and former All-Big Eight defensive back Brad Lambert. For the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons we currently have two of three non-conference matchups finalized as we will welcome Mississippi State of the SEC to Manhattan in 2018 in addition to UTSA.  We are excited about the home-and-home series with the Bulldogs of Mississippi State, a fellow land-grant institution from a "high visibility" conference.  The Wildcats will head to Starkville in 2019, while we will also welcome annual MAC contender Bowling Green to Manhattan in 2019.  The 2020 slate currently features Vanderbilt's return trip to Manhattan in addition to a visit from Buffalo of the MAC.Here is another look at all of the matchups in a more reader-friendly listing with the current dates, which are always subject to change:2015Sept. 5                  South DakotaSept. 12                at UTSASept. 19                Louisiana Tech2016Sept. 3                  Missouri StateSept. 17                FAUOne Game TBD2017Sept. 2                  Central ArkansasSept. 16                at VanderbiltSept. 23                Charlotte2018Sept. 8                  Mississippi StateSept. 15                UTSAOne game TBD2019Sept. 7                  Bowling GreenSept. 14                at Mississippi StateOne Game TBD2020Sept. 12           BuffaloSept. 19           VanderbiltOne game TBDBefore I close today, here are a few more updates from around the department.Operations Staff Assists with Fan Emergency MondayMidway through the second half Monday night many of you may have noticed that a fan in the middle of our student section was taken by emergency personnel out of the arena.  I am proud of our operational and emergency staff for quickly responding and efficiently treating and removing him from the packed student section for transport to Mercy Regional Health Center for evaluation.  Based on an internet post from the young man, he appears to be recovering well and already cheering for the Cats again.  Kudos again to all involved!Baseball Heads to Cal Following Weekend in ArizonaCoach Hill's squad opened up the Big 12/Pac 12 Challenge in Surprise, Ariz., last weekend with a thrilling 3-2 walk-off win over Utah as Danny Krause came through with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth to back up a complete-game effort by pitcher Nate Griep.  Following tough walk-off, one-run losses to Oregon State and Washington, the Bat Cats concluded play in the tournament with a convincing 12-3 win Sunday over Washington State.  The four Big 12 schools of K-State, KU, OU and OSU finished the weekend 10-6 against the Pac-12, and due to weather conditions preventing the team from playing this weekend in Manhattan, the Cats will now head to Cal for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 8 p.m. CT.Golf Teams Back in Action                                                                     Both of our golf teams have now begun the spring portion of their schedules as Coach Robbins' men's team is coming off an impressive fourth-place finish against a tough field at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif., while Coach Knight and the women's team finished 12th in Peoria, Ariz., at the Westbrook Invitational. The men will now head to Louisiana next week for a tournament, while the women's squad will not compete again until March 16.Equestrian/Tennis Pick Up Big Wins                                                     Congrats to Coach Maxwell and our equestrian team for a big 14-5 win last week against No. 3 TCU.  As I mentioned before, be sure and head out to Timbercreek Stables on Saturday as the Wildcats close out the 2015 home schedule against No. 1 Baylor.  Competition begins at 10 a.m., and admission is free to the general public.  The Wildcat women's tennis team, led by first-year coach Danielle Steinberg, went 1-1 last weekend in Las Vegas, as the netters bounced back from a tough loss to the host school and swept Colorado State, 7-0, on Saturday.  Next action for the tennis team will be March 8 at Iowa before a string of four-straight home matches outside at the beautiful Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.Track Teams Head to Ames for Big 12 Indoor Championships           Last Friday, Mary Lawrence and I made a stop by Ahearn Field House to check out the K-State Open, and we were thrilled to see and visit with former student-athletes Katya Leick, Martavious Irving and Omari Lawrence, who were all in attendance cheering on their former classmates participating which included Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard and former All-Americans Devin Dick and Kyle Wait in addition to our current team.  Coach Rovelto's squad will now turn its attention to the Big 12 Indoor Championships which began today in Ames.  Click here for our Big 12 Championships preview as both teams are excited about the opportunity to compete for numerous titles, including our women's team which is currently ranked sixth nationally.K-State Soccer Founders Club Launched                                              At Monday night's men's basketball game against KU, we unveiled the official K-State Soccer crest and also the formation of the K-State Soccer Founders Club as a chance for fans to support our newest program.  After just two days, early results are showing that the Wildcat Nation is excited for soccer as we had nearly 100 fans sign up for the Founder's Club.  Memberships are available for the first two seasons (2016 and 2017), and each of the three levels of the Founders Club receive a number of benefits, including an exclusive K-State Soccer scarf featuring the newly announced official crest.  Registration for the K-State Soccer Founders Club is available now.
