Letter from A.D. John Currie - January 10

We have great campus and Athletics leadership teams intact that have really come together and helped build momentum these last 18 months. I truly believe the coaches and staff that we have in place will keep us on the right trajectory towards our goal of a model intercollegiate athletics program.President Schulz has a tremendous vision for this University with K-State 2025 and we appreciate his tremendous leadership and ongoing commitment to athletics as we work to achieve our goals. We have made terrific progress and have a lot of which to be proud. Through your support, we raised a record total for annual Ahearn Fund cash gifts in 2009-10 at $14.47 million, set ticket and attendance records in football, men's basketball, baseball and volleyball, and have announced plans for the construction of a new basketball training facility. On the financial side, through revenue growth, along with new measures promoting efficiency and cost containment, we have been able to restore fiscal integrity and accountability to the department which included inheriting a budget projecting a loss of $2 million and turning it into a cash surplus of $5 million this past year. And, of course, our student-athletes are the key component to our operation. Not only have we accomplished championship-level performances on the field but K-State has secured the No. 1 all-sport graduation rate in the Big 12 for the past four years and maintains its reputation as a national leader in both athletic and academic achievement. But we still have work to do and will continue to rely on the grass-roots support, through the Ahearn Fund, that makes Kansas State so unique. Regardless of the amount, Ahearn gifts and your personal attendance at Wildcat athletic events are absolutely critical to achieve the goals we all have for K-State.And it's a great time to be a K-Stater - we have terrific coaches, dedicated student-athletes and the best fans in the country - and we are excited about what the future holds for our athletic program.Mary Lawrence and I are very privileged to be a part of the K-State family and the wonderful community of Manhattan. We are very blessed to call the Little Apple home. Thanks again for all that you do to support K-State Athletics and we will see you Wednesday night in Bramlage as the men's basketball team takes on Colorado! Go Cats!John Currie
