Letter from A.D. John Currie - January 5

Big Win!Congratulations to Coach Patterson and our women's squad for the huge overtime win at home over No. 8 Texas A&M. Remember that Saturday's men's game vs. Missouri tips off at 12:30 at Bramlage, while our women's team heads to Lawrence for a 7 p.m. tip against the Jayhawks. The Next BIG Step! Bill Snyder Family Stadium Master Plan Phase II!Those of you who were able to attend the pep rally or watch live on K-StateHD.TV were the first to see the public unveiling of the Bill Snyder Family Stadium Master Plan and the launch of our fundraising campaign for Phase II, the West Stadium Center. From 1968, the stadium now known as Bill Snyder Family Stadium has not just served as the home of Kansas State University Football, but as a special part of our community and culture. Since Coach Snyder arrived in Manhattan in 1989 to begin the "Greatest Turnaround in College Football History," 6 million fans have cheered the Wildcats to national prominence on Dave Wagner Field, witnessing wins over all Big 12 foes and traditional powers such as USC and UCLA, and of course the magical season resulting in the 2003 Big 12 Championship. Now Bill Snyder Family Stadium is more than just a place to play football games. It is the platform from which our University is beamed throughout the country on national television. It is the engine that not only drives K-State's $52 million annual athletic budget benefiting 16 teams and 444 student-athletes but serves as a catalyst driving economic development in the Flint Hills region. And, as Coach Snyder is oft to remind us, it is about the K-State Family, a family which truly is open and accessible to all the people of Kansas and the tens of thousands of friends and alumni who have come from across the nation and the world to become "K-Staters" for life. As we rally behind President Schulz's visionary "K-State 2025" plan to vault the institution into the ranks of the nation's top 50 public research universities, it is time to examine the future of Bill Snyder Family Stadium and take the right steps to ensure that our family's home is one that not only meets the 21st century needs of the program but also reflects the image of progress, growth and excellence of Kansas State University and Manhattan. In keeping with our pledge to fiscal responsibility, the BSFS Master Plan is a phased effort. Phase I was completed this past summer -- fittingly it focused on student-athlete safety with our new infill AstroTurf field surface and basic fan amenities such as the new upper-deck east-side restrooms. Now we turn our attention to the most ambitious fund-raising project in our athletics history, a $75 million total reconstruction of the west side of the stadium that we are calling the "West Stadium Center." Truly, the West Stadium Center will benefit every K-Stater with more than double the number of concourse restroom fixtures, new ADA seating, a Hall of Honor and even an on-site student-athlete training table/dining hall. And, the entire image of the University will be elevated with a classic limestone exterior befitting the beauty of our historic campus. Please click here to see the outline of the future of Bill Snyder Family Stadium and the West Stadium Center. Your feedback and participation are essential. Remember, the Master Plan is not intended to be static but rather a dynamic and ever-evolving blueprint for our future... a future we are determined to include championships both academically and athletically, a leadership position in big-time college football and a model intercollegiate athletics program.  Will some outsiders think we can't get this done? Absolutely! But the K-State Family knows better. Together, with every K-Stater doing their part I know we will reach our goal and make the West Stadium Center a reality.  Let's get to it.Go Cats!
