Letter from A.D. John Currie - May 6
There are several key components of this matter that I would like to emphasize. In keeping with the principles of our July 2009 K-State Pledge, the settlement amount will be paid from conference and NCAA revenues. No individual donations or ticket revenue will be used for this settlement or the legal fees which have totaled approximately $395,000 during this process. We will specifically earmark our share of the withdrawal fees to be paid by Nebraska and Colorado to the Big 12 Conference towards fulfilling the settlement.
Since President Schulz and I arrived here 23 months ago the support and passion of our fans have helped K-State leap forward toward our goal of being a model intercollegiate athletics program. We are glad to close this chapter and focus our energy on building on the terrific 2010-11 year Kansas State student-athletes have had both on the playing field and in the classroom, and know that even brighter days are ahead as we move into an exciting time with the new Big 12 Conference.
Separately I just returned from Dallas and a very productive and positive gathering of Big 12 athletic directors. You likely heard the Big 12 announcement yesterday that our home football game against Iowa State, originally scheduled for November 26, has been shifted a week later to December 3 as one of three important intra-conference games to be televised on the final day of the season. Additional benefits of the date change are providing Coach Snyder and our team an additional bye week during the regular season, as well as moving the contest away from the Thanksgiving holiday which in turn enables more students and fans to attend.
Overall, we are excited about our seven-game home schedule and are looking forward to the round-robin format of the new Big 12 Conference. We hope you can make it out to Bill Snyder Family Stadium this fall - there will be several exciting new additions to the scene in 2011 with the new east side upper deck restrooms and the new state-of-the-art infill AstroTurf field surface.
That's it for today. We hope to see you out at Tointon Family Stadium and the R.V. Christian Track Complex this weekend and to all Wildcat moms out there, we wish you a terrific Mother's Day weekend.
