Letter from A.D. John Currie - November 29

This is also a historic weekend for K-State Athletics and Bill Snyder Family Stadium as at halftime today we will feature a very special groundbreaking ceremony for the new $69 million Vanier Football Complex, Phase III of the BSFS Master Plan. By August 2015 we will have invested $194 million in new intercollegiate athletics facilities in just 48 months. And, thanks to the unified efforts of Ahearn Fund contributors, our fans, ticket-holders, student-athletes, coaches and administration, these projects are being completed in a fiscally responsible manner with zero tax or tuition dollars being used. Click here for yesterday's news release.Last night we had a special toast in the Big Eight Room among our Phase III leadership donors to recognize 45 years of service for the original Vanier Complex. Consider the incredible transformation of both K-State Athletics and Kansas State University during that time! Let's keeping striving toward President Schulz's K-State 2025 vision of being ranked among America's top 50 public research universities.Already this week our operations and academic staffs have been packing up areas of the Vanier Complex and will vacate the Academic Learning Center tomorrow followed by the balance of the building once the football equipment truck leaves for Baylor. The entire athletics staff is working hard to make our temporary accommodations as productive as possible for our student-athletes and coaches.Today's game will also mark our 20th consecutive home sellout, although you can still take advantage of the great weather and get a standing room only ticket at the East side ticket booth. The loyalty of our fans is incredible and especially remarkable given the number of empty seats at other stadiums around the country I have seen on TV over the last few days. Now on to a few more updates from around the department.Sunday's NCAA Volleyball Selection Show Follows Tonight's MatchThe Wildcats head into tonight's match with a 22-7 overall record and 9-6 mark in Big 12 play and can notch their best conference record since 2008 with a win. Come out to Ahearn and support our team and bring your KU football ticket and receive admission for just $3! After tonight's match, which will also air live on K-StateHD.TV, the squad will learn its NCAA Tournament destination as the selection show will air at 7:30 p.m., Sunday on ESPNU. Hoops Teams Back at Home After Thanksgiving TripsBoth basketball teams are back from trips to Maui and Mexico, respectively, and will return to action at home next week. You have likely read that our women's tournament ended prematurely due to a problem with the event organizer and facility. Once we have more details to report we will do so in my next letter. The men's squad, which picked up a great win over Purdue in the Maui Classic, will host Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday night at Bramlage, while the women's squad welcomes Texas-Arlington to Manhattan on Thursday night. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7 p.m.Before pregame activities pick up here at the stadium, I'd like to close with one more thought on today's groundbreaking. Our first gift commitment for Phase III came in November 2013. Just 12 months later Ahearn leadership donors have pledged almost $48 million toward our Phase III philanthropic gifts goal of $50 million! On behalf of all Wildcat student-athletes, coaches, fans and staff past, present and future, I want to thank the Vanier family and our leadership donors once more for paving the way for the K-State Nation to truly practice Coach Snyder's Goal No. 12 - No Self Limitations. Together we will achieve our vision of being America's Model Intercollegiate Athletics Program.Go Cats!John
