Lewis Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

2017 Naismith Trophy Watch List

Kansas State senior center Breanna Lewis has been named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s 50 preseason watch list in an announcement by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday morning. The midseason list of 30 will be announced on Feb. 8, 2017.

Lewis, one of five selections from the Big 12, is the first Wildcat to be named to the Naismith Trophy Watch list since Shalee Lehning in the 2008-09 season.

This season, Lewis ranks fourth in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting at a .717 clip. A 2016-17 preseason All-Big 12 Team selection by the league’s coaches, Lewis has started her final campaign by averaging 13.8 points per game, is pulling in 8.3 rebounds per game and blocking 2.0 shots per game after six games. She garnered Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team honors while helping the Wildcats to a 3-0 mark in the Virgin Islands.

The product of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a two-time All-Big 12 selection including a first team citation at the conclusion of a career-best 2015-16 season. Last season, Lewis averaged a career-best 16.7 points on a .550 field goal percentage while hauling in 7.5 rebounds and recording 10 double-doubles.

For her career, Lewis ranks 25th in school history for career points with 1,164 and is 14th for career rebounds with 635. The two-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection is on the cusp of setting the career blocks record in K-State history, needing 23 blocks to surpass the mark of 257 set by Marlies Gipson.

Kansas State has opened the season with a 6-0 record for the second time in three seasons under head coach Jeff Mittie and are unbeaten after six games for just the eighth time in the 49-year history of the program.

The Wildcats will be in action on Thursday, as K-State hosts (23) Auburn at 7:30 p.m., as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Tickets are available by calling (800) 221-CATS or by visiting www.kstatesports.com/tickets or by stopping by the ticket office in Bramlage Coliseum.
