Wildcats Set for Battle on the Bayou

LSU Battle on the Bayou Heat Sheets

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After a successful trip on the West Coast at the UCLA Legends Invitational, the Kansas State track and field team now heads south as it prepares for competition at the LSU Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday.

This will be the first time that the Wildcats have competed in the Battle on the Bayou, as well as the first time that K-State has competed at a meet in Louisiana since the LSU Combined Events in Baton Rouge on April 16-17, 2009.

The meet features a stout field that includes Big 12 foe Oklahoma, as well as Alabama, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Purdue and host LSU.

K-State will look to continue its impressive run of form against this tough competition as it comes off a strong performance at the UCLA Legends Invitational.

The eighth-ranked women’s team recorded a second-place finish at that meet, racking up a total of 124.5 points, while the 25th-ranked men’s side finished in third place with a total score of 94 points. The host team, UCLA, took first in both the men’s and women’s competition.

Overall, the team finished the meet with nine first-place finishes and saw the men’s hammer throw record broken for the second-straight meet by freshman Tyler Merkley, who finished with a throw of 62.31m/204-05, topping fellow thrower Brady Grunder’s previous top mark of 61.94m/203-02.

The Wildcats will have one competitor on Friday night, as Jeff Bachman competes in the 10K, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT.

Saturday’s competition kicks off at 9 a.m. CT with women’s discus throw in the field, while track events are slated to begin at noon CT with the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase.
