Men Finish 4th, Women 5th, at Cowboy Jamboree

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Competing in just the third race of the season, the Kansas State cross country teams earned top-5 finishes at the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday at the OSU Cross Country Course.

The men’s side finished in 4th place with a team score of 125, while the women rounded out the top-five with a 5th place finish, posting a team score of 117.

“The men’s side had just over one minute between the top five runners so I am pleased with their effort,” head coach Ryun Godfrey said. “It was also really good for use to come down and see the course before Big 12’s. The course has much more wood chips than in the past years and that definitely affected the speed of it.”

On the men’s side, sophomore Colton Donahue finished 10th with a time of 25:23.1. Jeff Bachman and Bryan Zack also posted top-25 results, finishing 22nd and 25th, respectively.

“Colton had his best college performance, including track efforts,” Godfrey said. “He is beginning to realize where his talent can take him.”

The women’s team also had a strong showing on Saturday. Junior Morgan Wedekind recorded another top-5 finish, placing 5th with a time of 21:26.9. Sophomore Kayla Doll also had a strong race, finishing 20th with a time of 22:10.4

“Morgan also had an impressive performance today. She was tired coming into the race after a solid week of practice and put up an impressive race today,” Godfrey said. “Kayla Doll continues to impress me as well.”

The Wildcats will have another long break before traveling to Peoria, Illinois, to race in the Bradley Classic on October 16. That race will be the last competition before the team heads back to Stillwater to race in the Big 12 Championships on October 31.
