Men Finish 6th, Women 7th, at Big 12 Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – Kansas State’s cross country teams posted solid results on Saturday as the men’s team finished in 6th place and the women’s team finished in 7th place at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Oklahoma State swept the event, taking both the men’s and women’s titles.

Junior Morgan Wedekind earned an individual medal at the meet, finishing in 10th place with a time of 21:09.4. Sophomore Colton Donahue’s 16th-place finish was the highest individual finish on the men’s side since Mathew Chesang finished 3rd in 2004.

The men’s 6th-place finish was the team’s best performance since 1998, when the Wildcats finished in 5th place. Juniors
Brett Bachman and Jeff Bachman each finished in the top-40, placing 31st and 36th, respectively.

“I thought the men ran well today,” head coach
Ryun Godfrey said. “Colton ran especially well and the Bachman twins were also very tough today. Lukas Koch is starting to come around and Joe Gorthy has had a solid freshman season.”

Sophomore
Kayla Doll placed 40th with a time of 22:11.4 to round out the top-40 on the women’s side, while Paige Stratioti finished four spots later at 44th with a time of 22:15.7.

“On the women's side I was thinking we were the 8th best team coming in and we finished 7th, so we should feel good about this. As I look through the results I see that we could have easily had a better day,” Godfrey said. “Morgan obviously ran well to finish 10th overall and earn All-Big 12 honors.  She has set herself up for an exciting opportunity at the Regional Championships. I also believe as a team we are going to run better at regionals.”

The Midwest Regional Championships will be held in Lawrence, Kansas, at the Rim Rock Farm Cross Country Course on November 13.
