Men's Basketball Holds Final Scrimmage Before Exhibition

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s basketball team held its final scrimmage on Saturday with the Wildcats again being broken down into Purple and White teams for three, eight-minute periods. 

The Purple squad won two of the three scrimmages, rebounding from a 20-17 loss in the first period to win 15-10 in the second period and 18-16 in third. The teams combined to shoot 60 percent (27-of-45) from field with five players scoring in double figures led by senior Justin Edwards’ 17 points. 

Edwards, who went 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free throw line, also led the way with 8 rebounds to go with 3 assists. Junior Wesley Iwundu scored 15 points on 4-of-6 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws to go with 4 assists, while fellow junior Austin Budke also added 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Senior Stephen Hurt and freshman Dean Wade each had 13. Hurt went 3-of-4 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to go with 5 rebounds and Wade knocked down 5-of-6 field goals and 3-of-4 from the line with 4 rebounds. Freshman Kamau Stokes dished out a team-high 5 assists to go with 6 points and 2 rebounds.

The scrimmage was the last before the Wildcats take on Division II foe Emporia State in their first exhibition game at 7 p.m., on Friday at Bramlage Coliseum. The team will play a second exhibition against Fort Hays State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 before opening the regular season against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday, Nov. 13.

Single-game tickets for the 19-game home schedule, excluding the Kansas game, went on sale to the public on Oct. 5, including the new Bramlage Bundle, which includes a GA/bench ticket, $10 concessions voucher and a souvenir from the K-State Super Store for just $20 for all non-conference games in 2015. In addition, several season ticket packages as well as the Holiday and 6-game Mini-Plans are also currently on sale.
