Men’s Golf Signs French National Caron

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State men’s golf coach Grant Robbins announced the signing of Matthieu Caron to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, adding to the Wildcats’ roster for the 2016-17 season.

Caron joins Jacob Eklund and Levi Valadez as freshmen on next year’s Wildcat squad.

“We are very excited to add Matthieu to an already strong 2016 class,” said Robbins. “Matthieu is a very accomplished player that will bring a great deal of international experience to the program.”

Caron hails from Bondues, France, a small community in the very northern portion of the country. He is ranked amongst the top players in France and was a member of the French National Team in 2014-15.

Caron won the Scottish Boys Under 16 Championship in 2013 and advanced to match play in that same year in the British Boys Championship, an event in which he also competed in the next two years. In 2015, Caron finished fourth at the French Junior Championships and also made the cut at the South Beach International Amateur held in Miami, Florida.

“He has competed at the highest level of amateur golf and has played all over the world,” Robbins said of his newest pupil. “He is also a tremendous student, who will represent us well both on and off the course.”

K-State’s spring season will continue this Saturday and Sunday at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa.
