Men’s Golf Tees Off Spring Slate at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s golf team will tee off its spring schedule Monday and Tuesday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama, at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Play is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with 36 holes of play, while the final round will start Tuesday at 8 a.m.

The event at the par 72, 7,212-yard course will be the Wildcats’ first competition since Oct. 26, 2015 when the team finished eighth out of 14 teams at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“We are excited to get the spring season started,” said Coach Grant Robbins. “I feel like the team has made a lot of progress over the past few days. Now it’s just a matter of getting to know the golf course, putting together a solid game plan and then going out there, competing and having some fun.”

The scoring lineup will feature Andrew Beckler, Trent Evans, Matt Green, Jack Rickabaugh and Kyle Weldon.

Weldon was a part of all four scoring lineups for K-State in the fall, with his best outing coming at the Rod Myers Invitational where he tied for fifth place with a 2-under 214. Green also posted a top-five finish, shooting a 1-over 217 that tied for fifth at the David Toms Intercollegiate. Beckler rounds out those with a top-five result from the fall after carding an even par 216 in his collegiate debut, which put him in a tie for fourth place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate.

The 15-team field in Mobile will feature No. 1 Auburn, the tournament’s winner the past three years, and No. 2 Wake Forest. Along with the Tigers, Demon Deacons and host school South Alabama, the field will consist of Chattanooga, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Illinois State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi and Texas State.

In addition to the five man scoring lineup, Connor Knabe, Roland Massimino, Hank Simpson and Oscar Spolander will travel to Mobile to compete in the South Alabama Individual Tournament, played at the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course.
