Men, Women Finish Third at Woody Greeno Invitational


MANHATTAN, Kan.
– Senior Morgan Wedekind continued her dominance in 2016, finishing in second place to lead all Wildcats, as the Kansas State cross country teams competed at the Woody Greeno Invitational at Pioneers Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday morning. 

Both the men and women finished in third place on Saturday, scoring 78 points and 53 points, respectively. South Dakota went on to win the women’s 6K with 32 points, while Air Force claimed first position in the men’s 8K with 24 points.  

Coming off of an impressive opening race where she recorded the Wildcats’ first first-place finish since 2014, Wedekind finished in second place with a time of 22:03.9. Junior Kayla Doll recorded her second top-10 finish of the season on Saturday, taking eighth place with a time of 22:39.0. 

The Wildcats also saw three freshmen finish in the top three as Sydney Collins finished in 17th place with a time of 22:59.3, Katie Condon took 22nd place with a time of 23:15.2 and Anna Keeley took 26th place with a mark of 23:22.6.

Junior Colton Donahue posted the Wildcats’ top finish of the race, taking 23rd place with a time of 26:34.6. Sophomore Joe Gorthy finished in the top 30, finishing in 29th place after running a time of 26:49.0. Junior Lukas Koch also had a strong race, finishing in 31st place with a time of 26:53.4.

The Wildcats return to action next Saturday, September 24, as they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to race in the Cowboy Jamboree at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course. The competition is set to begin at 9 a.m., CT.
