Multiple PRs Highlight Day One of KT Woodman Invitational

Day 1 Results

– Multiple Wildcats recorded personal bests as the Kansas State track and field team closed out the first day of competition at the KT Woodman Invitational on Friday evening. 

The Wildcat men currently sit in second place with 124 points, while the women sit in fifth place with 59 points after six events scored. Wichita State is the current leader in both the men’s and women’s competition with 128 points and 157 points, respectively.

K-State’s javelin throwers were the only competitors in the field for the Wildcats on day one of the meet. Haley Pitko set a new personal best in the event, throwing 46.93m/154-00 to finish in third place and tie her for the eighth-best mark in the Big 12 this season. Newcomer Ally Zerbe took fifth place in the competition with a throw of 45.11m/148-00. 

On the men’s side, freshman Derek Selk also recorded a personal best mark in the javelin throw with a toss of 61.38m/201-04. 

In the men’s 1500 meter run, junior Lukas Koch continued his strong 2016 season, recording a second-place finish in the race with a time of 3:53.16. SeniorBlake Goodin finished less than a second behind Koch, but went on to set a new personal best in the event with a time of 3:53.19. 

The Wildcats also saw success in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Sophomore Kayla Doll finished in second place with a time of 10:57.212. Junior Jeff Bachman also finished in second place in the steeplechase, posting a time of 9:36.38. Sophomore Sam Oxandale finished in fifth place in the event with a personal best time of 9:56.62.

K-State also had two athletes set personal bests in the men’s 5000 meter run. Bryan Zack finished in 13th place with a time of 15:27.95, while freshman Joe Gorthy finished in 20th place with a time of 15:49.58. 

Competition resumes on Saturday with the women’s hammer throw and men’s discus throw at 11 a.m. CT. Track events will begin at 12:30 p.m. CT on the final day of the meet with the 100 meter dash prelims.
