No. 9 Wildcats Head to Stillwater for Spring Opener
MANHATTAN, Kan. – After finishing off the fall season with a 3-3 record, the No. 9 Kansas State equestrian team utilized the winter break to critique and perfect the fundamentals to begin the trek to Nationals, as the Wildcats begin the spring season with a trip south to Stillwater on Saturday at 10 a.m., to compete against No. 5 Oklahoma State.
“We are all looking forward to getting back out in the competition arena this spring. It was a good, much needed break, but everyone is ready to get back to work.” said head coach Casie Maxwell.
Last fall in the head to head match up in Manhattan between the Wildcats and Cowgirls, K-State fell just shy of a victory with a 13-7 loss.
A trio of juniors will lead the Hunt Seat team: Henley Adkins, Christina Martinelli and Taylor Schmidt, as well as sophomore Molly Dunn. The Wildcats will look to juniors Gretchen Koenen and Rory Reichelt in Equitation on the Flat as well as sophomores Halle Kutsche and Daniela McCormick in Equitation over Fences to complete the Hunt Seat lineup.
K-State’s triple threat of seniors Danielle Kemper, Kara Guy and Nicholle Hatton will guide the disciplined Western team to take on the forceful competition this weekend.
Kemper is 4-4-1 this season in the Horsemanship arena and will feed off her rhythm so far this season while carrying it over on Saturday. Joining Kemper in Horsemanship will be fellow senior Emily Castellini, juniors Sydney Anson and Alyssa Lombardi and sophomores Ashley Anderson, Paige Kemper and Taylor Serrano as they look to be a threat in the discipline.
The Wildcats will seek out Guy and Hatton to pave the way for the Wildcats in Reining. Hatton has really stepped up this season with a 5-1 record. Kemper, sophomores Brynn Critcher and Kali Retzler and freshman newcomer, Taylor Todd, who is now 3-3 in her debut season as a Wildcat, will look to pick up points for the Wildcats in the arena.
