AT THE PLATE
AT THE PLATE
K-State returns home and to Big 12 play with a three-game series against Texas (12-17, 3-3 Big 12) Friday through Sunday at Tointon Family Stadium ... The Wildcats are coming off a 4-2 win on Tuesday at Nebraska, snapping their four-game losing streak ... K-State has been swept in its first two Big 12 series this season, both of which were to ranked teams ... At home, the Wildcats are 8-9 ... Texas, meanwhile, arrives in Manhattan having lost its midweek game this past Tuesday as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi blanked the Longhorns, 5-0 ... Texas has lost five of its last six since taking the first two games of its series against TCU in late March ... The Longhorns are 3-5 on the road.
LAST TIME OUT
K-State snapped a three-game losing streak to Nebraska by beating the Cornhuskers, 4-2, in Lincoln on Tuesday ... Brandon Erickson earned the win after throwing four-plus innings of scoreless baseball in his first start of the season ... Jordan Floyd notched his first save of the year after getting the final six outs - including working out of a bases-loaded, no-out threat in the eighth ... Cory Wright and Mitch Zubradt also combined to hold the Huskers to one run over a combined three innings out of the bullpen ... Tyler Moore (3-for-5) and Jake Scudder (2-for-4) combined for five of K-State’s nine hits ... Scudder hit his third home run of the season to give K-State a 1-0 lead in the second while Moore had an RBI single in the seventh to give the Wildcats a 4-1 advantage.
INSIDE THE TEXAS SERIES
K-State trails in the all-time series against Texas, 15-50-1 (15-40-1 in Big 12 play) ... The Wildcats have lost four straight to the Longhorns, a streak that started in the 2014 season finale in Manhattan (L, 8-9 in 10 innings) ... K-State’s last win in the series was on May 17, 2014 (5-4) ... Four of the last five games in the series have been decided by two runs or less ... Since 2009, K-State is 7-14-1 against Texas and 3-6 at home ... The Wildcats have not won a series against the Longhorns at home since 1998.
HOME, SWEET HOME
With its return home after a four-game road stint, K-State will get back to Tointon Family Stadium where it is hitting .304 as a team in 17 games ... The Wildcats are also averaging 7.1 runs per home game ... In 13 road/neutral contests, K-State is hitting .251 and averaging 5.3 runs.
FRESHMAN AT HOME
The Wildcats’ top hitter at home is Josh Rolette, who is batting .382 (26-for-68) with a .462 OBP and .544 SLG ... The freshman has five doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI in his 17 home games ... He has at least two hits in his last two games at home as well as in five of his last eight ... The Shawnee, Oklahoma native also has an RBI in five consecutive home games entering the weekend.
While K-State is hitting .304 as a team at home, the Wildcats have been able to hit well over its last six games overall - which includes four road games ... Since March 29 vs. Omaha, K-State is batting .318 while averaging 6.2 runs and 11.7 hits per game ... Over the stretch, K-State has five home runs, with four different players registering roundtrippers (Jake Scudder - 2; Clayton Dalrymple - 1; Josh Rolette - 1; Jake Wodtke - 1).
AMONG THE LEADERS
For the season, the K-State is offense is third among Big 12 teams in batting average (.282), OBP (.383), hits (290), runs (189) and stolen bases (37; tied with Oklahoma State).
In addition to the offense being among the Big 12 leaders in overall games, the Wildcat pitching staff is pacing the conference in strikeouts with 245 ... Last year through the first 30 games of the season, K-State had 170 strikeouts (finished with 304 in 57 games) ... TCU (239) and Oklahoma State (238) trail the Wildcats for the Big 12 lead in strikeouts entering the weekend ... K-State is currently averaging more than 8 strikeouts per nine innings (8.29), something it has not done for an entire season since 1976 (8.2).
LEVI AND PARKER SHOW
Helping K-State notch a Big 12-leading 245 strikeouts are starters Levi MaVorhis and Parker Rigler ... MaVorhis, a right-handed senior, is fifth in the conference with 42 punchouts while Rigler, a junior southpaw, is tied for eighth with 38 ... K-State, joins Oklahoma State as the only team to have two pitchers in the Big 12’s top-eight for strikeouts ... MaVorhis needs six more strikeouts to match his career-high of 48 set in 2014 (15 appearances) ... Rigler has six or more strikeouts in each of his last four outings, including seven in his last appearance on April 2 at Texas Tech ... MaVorhis also has just six walks against his 42 strikeouts, helping him rank 25th in Division I in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
WHAT A RELIEF
Reliever Jordan Floyd, who notched the six-out save on Tuesday at Nebraska, is tied for fourth in the Big 12 with 15 appearances this season ... The southpaw is also one of three pitchers in the conference with a batting average against less than .200 while also appearing in 15 or more games ... In his last six appearances, Floyd has a .152 batting average against ... The junior has pitched in six of K-State’s last 10 games.
Jake Scudder continued his hot stretch by going 2-for-4 on Tuesday at Nebraska - which was 11th multi-hit game of the season (T-2nd on K-State) ... Over his last five games, the junior is batting .550 (11-for-20) with two home runs, four RBI and three walks ... He has three multi-hit efforts over the same stretch while also not striking out once.
Tyler Moore had a game-high three RBI at Nebraska, which was his sixth multi-RBI game this season (four all of last season) ... The senior trails Scudder (8) for the team lead in multi-RBI games ... Moore, who is third on the team with 22 RBI this year, has four RBI in his last two games and seven in his last six.
Josh Rolette enters the weekend with a 23-game on-base streak, the longest by a Wildcat this season and second-longest active streak among Big 12 hitters (Jackson Cramer, West Virginia - 47 games) ... Rolette has a .456 OBP over the span ... He is also the owner of a five-game hitting streak, his second streak of five or more games this year ... He is second among Big 12 freshmen in batting average (.330) on the year and ninth overall.
