AT THE PLATE
With 12 of its past 14 games having been in Big 12 play, K-State steps into a six-game stretch of non-conference foes, beginning with a home game against Grand Canyon (19-18, 8-7 WAC) on Wednesday ... The Wildcats were scheduled to play two games this midweek, but the contest at Wichita State on Tuesday was postponed to May 4 due inclement weather ... K-State is coming off its second straight series win, taking two of three against Baylor at home ... The Wildcats are 5-3 over their last eight games ... Grand Canyon, which is scheduled to play KU on Tuesday, is on a four-game winning streak entering the week after sweeping North Dakota last weekend and beating Seattle in their series finale ... The Antelopes are 4-6 over their last 10 games.
LAST TIME OUT
K-State won back-to-back Big 12 series for the first time since 2013 after it captured the final two games of the three-game set against Baylor last weekend at Tointon Family Stadium ... The Wildcats hit .374 over the series and out-scored the Bears, 26-18 ... In the opener, K-State overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring four runs in the third, but runs by Baylor in the fourth, fifth and eighth helped force extra-innings before K-State lost 7-5 in 10 ... The Wildcats bounced back, though, by overcoming a 6-2 deficit after the top of the fourth inning on Saturday by scoring three in the fourth and four in the sixth to put away the Bears, 11-7 ... K-State had eight extra-base hits among its 13 total hits in the series finale, lifting it to a 10-4 win ... The two teams combined for nine home runs in the series, including four by K-State ... The Wildcats had two homers in the series finale ... K-State also out-hit the Bears, 40-35.
INSIDE THE GRAND CANYON SERIES
Wednesday will be the third all-time meeting between K-State and Grand Canyon, with the Wildcats having won the first two games back in 2014 ... This will be the first ever matchup in Manhattan in the series ... K-State and Grand Canyon faced off in Abilene, Texas in 2014, with the Wildcats winning 9-4 on February 28 and 11-1 on March 1 ... The pair of games were late additions to the 2014 schedule as K-State had its original home series cancelled due to snow.
The Baylor series continued K-State’s hot-hitting trend as the Wildcats are batting .340 (86-for-253) over the last seven games and averaging 7.7 runs per contest (54 runs total) ... K-State has double-digit hits in six of the last seven games ... It also has 25 extra-base hits among its 86 total hits, including 15 doubles, four triples and six home runs ... For the overall season, K-State is third among Big 12 teams with a .293 batting average (trails TCU (.314) and Texas Tech (.302)).
LAW OF AVERAGES
K-State’s .374 batting average against Baylor was its second-highest clip in a three-game series this season and highest in a Big 12 series since 2013 vs. Texas Tech (.417) ... K-State’s highest batting average in a series this season was .411 vs. UAPB.
K-State, which had four home runs against Baylor, has hit 10 home runs in the month of April, its most in the month since 2013 (12) ... Six different Wildcats have a home run this month, led by four from Jake Scudder ... His four homers are the most by an individual Wildcat in April since Jared King also had four in 2013 ... Other Wildcats with homers this month include Clayton Dalrymple, Tyler Moore, Josh Rolette (2), Steve Serratore and Tyler Wolfe ... The 10 homers have helped K-State total 22 this season, one less than its combined total from the 2014 (15) and 2015 (8) seasons.
MORE THAN HOME RUNS
The team leader in home runs, Jake Scudder, has eight hits over his last three games as he turned in a .615 average (8-for-13) against Baylor ... It continues his torrid stretch in which he is hitting .429 (27-for-63) with three doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI over 15 games since March 30 ... His .714 slugging percentage since March 30 is 155 points higher than the next closest Wildcat (Quintin Crandall, .559) ... Among Big 12 hitters for the overall season, Scudder is tied for sixth in home runs, ninth in RBI and tied for 10th in hits.
Quintin Crandall, who has started nine straight games, turned in back-to-back two-hit games to cap the Baylor series while he also drove in six runs total for the set ... Over the last six games, the junior is batting .429 (9-for-21) with two doubles, two triples and six RBI ... He has four multi-hit games over the six-game stretch after he had two over his first 29 games this season.
Clayton Dalrymple piled onto his multi-hit game total this season with two more in the Baylor series ... The senior has 21 multi-hit efforts on the year, the most by a Wildcat since 2013 ... Dalrymple enters the week with a seven-game hitting streak, a span in which he is batting .500 (9-for-18) and has five multi-hit games ... The leadoff hitter has not gone back-to-back games without multi-hit efforts since April 2 in a doubleheader against Texas Tech (a 12-game stretch) ... He is the team leader in batting average and fifth in the Big 12 with a .366 clip (60-for-164).
Tyler Moore extended his career-high on-base streak to 19 games by reaching in every game of the Baylor series ... The senior is also the owner of an 11-game hitting streak, tied for the longest by a Wildcat this season ... The last hitting streak of 12 games or longer for K-State was Danny Krause (12 games) in 2015 ... During the current hitting streak, Moore is batting .465 (20-for-43) with 13 RBI ... He also has a .476 OBP during the on-base streak (.416 OBP for the entire season).
Over the last three games, the K-State bullpen has a 2.08 ERA (3er, 13.0ip) and held opponents to a .240 batting average against ... The group also has 12 strikeouts against four walks over the stretch ... Five of the seven relievers who have logged an out during the stretch have not surrendered an earned run: Jordan Floyd (3.0 IP), Nick Jones (2.2 IP), Mitch Zubradt (2.0 IP), Lucas Benenati (1.0 IP) and Colton Kalmus (0.1 IP).
