Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Mike Dibbini

On if the team has finally gotten used to the home field…
“It is a great feeling to have this W and finally win at home. They have been working really hard. This was a tough weekend for the fact that we played two overtimes on Friday and finding our legs in this game especially in the first half did not come very fast. It took a nice halftime pep talk for them to come out fired up in the second half, because in the first half we looked like we were in concrete the whole half. We just were not dynamic and we were not moving the way we are capable of moving, but we responded and won.”

On his version of the halftime speech to the team…
“Basically, if they are not going to bring their urgency and the effort than this week’s practice is going to reflect mainly on no balls and a lot of effort practices and they responded well to that. It was not a matter of X’s and O’s it was a matter of just turning up the effort and winning the first ball and second ball. You saw that immediately in the first 15 minutes of that second half to put the game away.”

On the two goals...
“I thought it was a collective effort of a lot of pressure and creating a lot of set pieces on fouls for us and because we applied that pressure it gave us a great opportunity and Kim Braddock changed the game for us by making the ball stick and holding it up for us so we could start our attack.”

On how their defense played…
“Well, we got a shutout. Shutouts are important. I think that collective effort from our backline, our defensive mid in Morgan Mauck and our goalkeeping, plus the frontline putting pressure up high so we do not have to worry about them defending all game. I was a little concerned there at the end, though, because we got in that defensive mode again, but I brought our players that started the game in for the last five minutes to try to give us another goal. That way, we did not have to worry about them coming back.”

On the momentum gained from these last two games…
“Anytime you get one point or three points it is great. We got four points this weekend at home and I felt like we played three solid halves out of the four. Hopefully we can carry it over to next week.”

On the if the aggressiveness was too much with the yellow cards…
“I like the aggressiveness of it, however we have got to be a little bit smarter. There is smart yellow card pick-up and there is some that you have got to be little bit smarter on.”

Sophomore forward Kim Braddock
On today’s outcome…
“It feels really good. It is a lot better than coming off a loss. We are looking to build on it.”

On how her goal felt…
“It felt pretty good to get out ahead because first half we were not on it. We were sitting in and dropping to their level. To be able to get a goal in the second half led to intensity and it was better after.”

On the message at halftime from coach…
“He told us we win or he will give us a tough ultimatum this week for practices so we decided to go out there and work our butts off to get this win."

On the strong play during after getting the lead…
“It is just our mindset to keep going offensively. When we start getting more defensive at the end of the game is when we start getting a little more worried. Coach always says “offense is our best defense” so just being able to keep the ball in their defensive third is our strength in that kind of moment.”

Sophomore forward Tatum Wagner
On her goal…
“I figured if we scored another goal maybe that they would not come back and we would not have to play another overtime like we did on Friday.”

On how it feels to get their first home win…
“It is definitely a lot better. They come out and support us and it is good to give back to them and show them that we can win. They came out for a reason.”

On the difference between the halves…
“We definitely started out slow and then coach got mad at us at halftime and threatened us to run all week. So, I think that we wanted to come out and definitely do better than we did in the first half.”

On the last two games and building momentum…
“I think we just know that we need to start the way that we have been ending our games. That is what we are focusing on in practice. Just coming out strong.”
