Postgame Quotes: K-State vs. Sam Houston State

Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Mittie

On getting out to the start they wanted…
“Well it was a slow start from us. I did not like our effort. I think we kind of wanted some things to be easy tonight. We had every open shot early and did not knock a whole lot down. All other things, offensive rebounds and those things, were nonexistent in that stretch. Inside touches were very few and far between early in this game. So, there was not a lot to like early. Late, I thought we played better. I thought we got the ball inside. [Breanna] Lewis had a good run there in the third and fourth quarter. Kindred [Wesemann] had a good look, but quite frankly it was not what I would consider a good performance from us.”

On only having eight turnovers…
“Ironically, I thought our passing was poor. We were slinging it and I thought we were making the wrong pass in the offense and not being fundamental. I thought we probably had some great catches out there. But, if we were a wide receiver in the Big 12, we would have been hit numerous times up in the air with tough passes. I think a lot of our bad shooting was because of poor passing. So, I was a little surprised to see only eight turnovers, I really was. Because we did not feel like it, sitting on the bench, that we were very crisp with our passing and did not feel like our offense had much rhythm to it most of the night.”

On Breanna Lewis’ performance…
“I thought she was strong with the ball when we got it to her there late. She was much stronger. She looked like she had a good determination to her when she got the ball. Some of that may have come early from her getting in foul trouble, but it did look like she had good determination when she got the ball down low.”

On offensive ball movement…
“We feel like we are really capable of being a really good passing team. While the eight turnovers is a really good number, we are judging it to a higher standard of that we feel like we have the capabilities to really move the ball to shooters and hit them in their shooting pockets. Tonight, we did not see that kind of rhythm.”

Forward Breanna Lewis
On her performance after picking up two fouls…
“I tried not to think about the two fouls that I had, and I just tried to play the rest of game because I could not get them back. It was just about going forward from there.”

Guard Kindred Wesemann
On her fourth quarter…
“Shots just started going in. We had better passes, and so, I felt like the ball was just right where I wanted it and I shot it.”
