Preston Wins Kansas Women’s Amateur

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Recently graduated Kansas State women’s golfer Scotland Preston carded a 36-hole score of 6-over par 150 to be named the Grand Champion of the 2016 Kansas Women’s Amateur held at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta on Wednesday and Thursday.

Preston bounced back from a 5-over par 77 in the first round with the best second-round score in the field at 1-over par 73, edging runner-up Martha Linscott of Mission Hills by two strokes. Current University of Central Oklahoma golfer Makena Mucciaccio finished second (153), Anna Pool of Coffeyville finished third (156) and recent University of Kansas graduate Yupaporn Kawinpakorn finished fourth (156).

Preston’s victory marked the second time in the last three years a former Wildcat won the Kansas Women’s Amateur. Gianna Misenhelter shot a three-round score of 219 during the 2014 event held at Colbert Hills to win the second Kansas Women’s Amateur of her career.

The K-State women’s golf team opens the 2016-17 season with the Minnesota Invitational, Sept. 12-13, at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn.
