Purple/White Scrimmage Set for August 21

MANHATTAN, Kan. – In a tune-up for its season opener on August 28, K-State volleyball will hold its annual Purple/White Scrimmage in Ahearn Field House on Friday, August 21 at 7 p.m. Admission to the scrimmage is free and doors will open at 6 p.m.

It will be the first opportunity for fans to see the 2015 edition of the Wildcats, who start their season with the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida from August 28-29. Fans will be able to purchase season tickets at the scrimmage as well as pick up team posters and schedules.

K-State returns eight letterwinners from last year’s 22-win squad that reached the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time in program history. Highlighted by AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selections, Katie Brand and Kylee Zumach, the Wildcats have five players – Brand and Zumach along with Kersten Kober, Katie Reininger and Brooke Sassin – who played in at least 111 of K-State’s 116 sets in 2014. Zumach, Sassin and Reininger finished among the Wildcats’ top-three in kills last year while Brand, the Wildcats’ starting setter for every match over the last two years, led the team in assists and was second in digs. Kober served as the team’s starting libero, pacing the team in digs (413) and finishing second in aces (20).

Other returning letterwinners include redshirt sophomores Mattie Batchelder and Bailey Shurbet, and sophomore outside hitter Bryna Vogel.

K-State also welcomes back redshirts from a year ago, defensive specialist Devan Fairfield, opposite Sami Flattum, and middle blocker Makenzie Holcomb. Four freshmen, Macy Flowers, Zsofia Gyimes, Kelsey Schroll and Alyssa Schultejans, will join the team as well.

Season tickets for K-State’s 11-match home schedule are available now and start at less than $3 per match. The Wildcats will play Cal, Green Bay and UNLV in home non-conference action before taking on Big 12 opponents as part of the double-round robin conference format. To purchase season tickets, fans can click here, call 1-800-221-CATS (2287) or stop by the K-State Athletics Ticket Office in Bramlage Coliseum.

Information about single-match tickets and promotions will be announced in mid-August.
