Q&A With K-State Volleyball's Courtney Traxson
Sports Extra: What is your favorite part about being a K-State Student-Athlete?
Traxson: There are very few student-athletes out there, so it's awesome to be around other athletes, have that experience with them, grow friendships and just be a part of something bigger than yourself.
Sports Extra: What are you studying at K-State and why did you choose that major?
Traxson: I'm studying psychology. I was very interested in the first psychology class that I took. I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do, but then a lot of my credits lined up for me to graduate early with psychology as my major, so I decided to go with that and I like it so far.
Sports Extra: The atmosphere in Ahearn Field House on game days is pretty cool. What's it like being on the court during a home match?
Traxson: Ahearn is unlike anywhere else that we play. For volleyball, there are not a lot of fans at our other conference places - the places are huge because they use them for basketball as well. So it's not the same atmosphere. I think this really captures how we have Purple Pride. It's packed all the time. It's amazing... it really is.
Sports Extra: Who on your team has surprised you the most this season?
Traxson: I would say (sophomore middle blocker) Katie Reininger. She's a transfer. She's just a ball of fire. She goes out there and leaves everything on the court. She has progressed so much. She has just been annihilating the ball lately, and I think she'll be a great player.
Sports Extra: Who is the funniest person on your team?
Traxson: A lot of people would not know this, actually a lot of people think (redshirt freshman setter) Katie Brand looks scary when she's playing. My brothers have asked me if she's mean, but she is the goofiest person you will ever meet.
Sports Extra: Do you have any hidden talents?
Traxson: I was a Cheney High School state champ (in basketball, 2009-10). I'm kind of a baller. I'm actually talking to (senior outside hitter) Dakota Kauffman, who'll graduate with me. We're putting together a basketball team for the spring semester. We're going to show up the sorority girls... sorry ladies.
Sports Extra: The social media question I've got from you comes from Tyler on Facebook. Tyler asks, "A penguin walks through the door right now, wearing a sombrero. What does he say, and why is he here?"
Traxson: He says, "How about that ride in?" and then, he's here to support the K-State Volleyball team because he's here to party, and he wants to have a good time in the Purple Pit!
Sports Extra: The social media question I pulled from Twitter comes from Cody. He asks, "Is The Goonies the best movie ever, or is it The Goonies?"
Traxson: (Laughing) It is definitely The Goonies. It's been my favorite movie for quite some time. I love it. He knows that - he's my good friend. So, go watch The Goonies if you have it.
K-State volleyball heads to Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday evening to take on KU at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Dillons Sunflower Showdown will take place at 6:30 p.m., and will be aired on ESPN3.
