Six K-State Men’s Golfers Advance in Kansas Amateur

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Six Kansas State men’s golfers – Connor Knabe, Andrew Beckler, Roland Massimino, Trent Evans@Matt Green and Jack Rickabaugh – advanced to match play in the 106th Kansas Amateur after 36 holes of stroke play at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course and the Golf Club at Southwind in Garden City on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Knabe led the group by carding a 1-over par 144 to tie for eighth place. The No. 8 seed for match play, Knabe will take on Eric Sexton of Derby in the first round of match play on Thursday. Two strokes behind Knabe was Beckler, who carded a two-round score of 3-over par 146 – including a 1-under par 70 on Wednesday – to tie for 10th place. The Topeka product will be the 11th seed for match play and take on 54th-seed Austin Liudahl of Chanute on Thursday.

Massimino and Evans were a part of a nine-way tie for 18th place during the stroke play portion of the event at 5-over par 148. Massimino will serve as the No. 20 seed and take on No. 45 seed Andrew King of Junction City on Thursday, while Evans, the No. 21 seed, will face No. 44 seed Landon Fox of Winfield.

Green finished stroke play at 6-over par 149 to tie for 27th and will serve as the 29th seed against 36th-seed James Henderson of Overland Park to begin match play. Rickabaugh, who on Wednesday was named an All-America Scholar for the 2015-16 season, carded a two-round score of 7-over par 150 to tie for 35th place. He will be seeded 37th for match play and take on Conrad Walcher of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in the first round.

Following the Round of 64 on Thursday, match play continues Friday with the Round of 32 and Round of 16. The Quarterfinals and Semifinals will take play on Saturday, while the 36-hole Final Match will be conducted on Sunday. All matches will take place at the Golf Club at Southwind.
