Six Wildcat Golfers Advance in Kansas Amateur

MANHATTAN, Kan. – All six Kansas State men’s golfers for the 2015-16 season playing in the 105th Kansas Amateur advanced to match play following the second round of stroke play Wednesday at Wichita Country Club.

Junior-to-be Matt Green tied for second during the stroke-play portion with a 36-hole score of 7-under par 135, while another junior, Hank Simpson, also finished in the top 20 as he tied for 15th at 1-under par 141.

Green was under par in both rounds, firing a 4-under par 67 on Tuesday and a 3-under par 68 on Wednesday. As the No. 3 seed, he will take on take on 62nd-seeded Jack Rickabaugh Thursday morning. Simpson, the 16th seed, will duel No. 49 seed Sion Audrain.

Finishing just outside the top-20 during stroke play was sophomore-to-be Trent Evans in a tie for 21st at even-par 142. Incoming freshman Andrew Beckler tied for 29th at 4-over par 146 thanks to a 1-undder par 70 during Wednesday’s second round.

On Thursday, the 26th-seeded Evans will face No. 39 seed Charlie Rinehart, while Beckler, the 29th seed, takes on No. 36 seed Treg Fawl.

A junior for 2015-16, Connor Knabe tied for 44th at 4-over par 146 as he was able to rebound and narrowly make the cut for match play thanks to a 1-under par 70 on Wednesday. Another incoming freshman, Ben Fernandez, was also on the right side of the cut line at 5-over par 147.

Knabe, the 48th seed, will be matched up against No. 17 seed Spencer Christian on Thursday. As the 57th seed, Fernandez will face eighth-seeded Cameron Wiltse.
