MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Bill Bergan Invitational got underway on Thursday afternoon with the first four events of the men's heptathlon and a pair of Wildcats is near the top of the leader board. Senior Devin Dick is in second place with 3,071 points while fellow senior Tomas Kirielius close behind in third place with 2,966 points. The pair trails Romain Martin from Texas-Arlington, who holds an 80-point lead on Dick, and finished fifth last year at the NCAA Championship.

Dick and Kirielius both opened the day with personal records in the 60 meter dash. Kirielius crossed the line in 7.27 seconds and found himself in third place following the opening event. Dick finished in 7.32 seconds and was in sixth place. Dick followed that performance with a long jump of 6.91 meters (22-08.00) to shoot up the standings into second place after two events. With a PR of nearly half a meter in the shot put, Dick helped solidify his standing in second place through three events. His toss of 13.61 meters (44-08.00) ranks third in school history in a heptathlon.

Kirielius did not have as strong a showing in the shot put but was still able to move into third place. He was the best Wildcat in the high jump clearing 2.03 meters (6-08.00), just one centimeter shy of his PR in the event to move a bit closer to Dick holding onto second place as Dick cleared 2.00 meters (6-06.75).

Dick and Kirielius will finish the heptathlon beginning at 2 p.m. Friday with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters. K-State will also have four women competing in the pentathlon with the five-discipline event set to start at 1 p.m.
