Wildcats Finish Third at Bill Bergan Invite

AMES, Iowa - The Kansas State track and field team finished the three-day Bill Bergan Invitational with a pair of third-place finishes for both the men and the women. The men's squad tied for third with 62 points tallied while the women scored 85 to come in third at the team scored meet.

The men's team did not win any of the events at the meet but did have a number of Wildcats post strong marks over Saturday's action.

Balazs Baji cracked the 8-second mark in the 60 meter hurdles for the first time in his short K-State career finishing third in 7.99 seconds. Mantas Silkauskas finished sixth in the event to give the Wildcats two point scorers in the hurdles.

In the sprints, Jason Coniglio continued to build on his season tallying another second-place finish in the 60 meters tying his personal best time of 6.85 seconds. He also finished third in the 200 meters in 21.96 seconds.

The men saw success from its mid-distance runners with Armando Del Valle finishing second in the mile and the pair of Jack Sachse and Sam James claiming second and third in the 800 meters.

For the women, Denise Baker continued to run strong in the hurdles finishing third again tying her fastest time of 8.53 seconds. Beverly Ramos posted two strong finishes coming in second in the mile run behind Iowa State's Lisa Koll and winning the 3,000 meters in 9:32.22. Freshman Sara Stoakes led the pack in the 800 meters winning the event in 2:09.76 to rank fifth in school history. In the field events, Chelsie Bonds finished second in the weight throw passing her previous best throw at 59-11.75.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend in Lincoln, Neb., for the Sevigne Husker Invitational.
