Wildcats Post 5 PR's in Prelims

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kansas State track and field team opened the first day of the Sevigne Husker Invitational on a high note with five personal records and five Wildcats advancing to finals in their respective events.

In their first event of the day, the Wildcats had four women in the weight throw seeing Ali Pistora post a personal record for the second straight week finishing fourth with her throw of 58-07.50 to rank 10th in school history. Chelsie Bonds finished sixth throwing 57-09.75. For the men Tomaz Bogovic finished 13th with his throw of 58-00.25 just short of his season best.

The Wildcats had a group competing in the 60 meter hurdles with Denise Baker, Lauren Garrott and Jeffrey Julmis winning their heats. Baker won her women’s heat with her time of 8.50 seconds to advance to Saturday’s final. Garrott ran a personal best 8.84 seconds to advance, and Cenarda Jackson finished right behind Garrott clocking 8.95 seconds for a new personal best as well but just missing out on the finals. Julmis crossed the line in his heat in 7.99 seconds to also advance to the finals.

Martynas Jurgilas kept the personal records coming winning his heat in the 60 meter dash clocking in at 6.70 to rank third in school history. Mantas Silkauskas also timed in with a personal best in the 60 meters at 6.82 seconds also winning his heat to advance to the final. With his time Silkauskas moves into a tie for 10th in K-State history as well. Samantha McKnight won her heat in the women’s 200 meters but did not advance to the final based on time.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday afternoon for the finals in running events as well as the men’s shot put and pole vault in field competition. Live results will be available at huskers.com and keep up with the action on Twitter by following @kstatesports throughout the competition.
