Wildcats Sweep Two Events to Open Outdoor

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Kansas State Wildcats opened their outdoor track and field season with some strong performances at the Aztec Invitational on Friday. A number of Wildcats competed in the day’s open meet competition highlighted by the men’s team sweeping the top three spots in the 800 meters.

Sam James led the way for K-State crossing the finish line in 1:52.82. He was followed closely by Jacob Davies and Kyle Hanson. Franciso Colomar won the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 53.40 seconds. Luke Hibbeler finished right on his heels in second with a new personal record time of 54.40 seconds.

On the women’s side competing on the track, Boglarka Bozzay won the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:32.24. The Wildcats also pulled the triple threat in the event with Martina Tresch and Sara Stoakes taking the next two spots. Meghan Heuer won the women’s 800 meters clocking in at 2:15.50 and Laura Lee Baird finished third.

A number of Wildcats competed in the hammer throw invitational competition held off-campus of San Diego State. Those results were not available at press time.

The Wildcats will return to action for the invitational portion of the meet hosted by San Diego State on Saturday with more athletes competing. From there the team will have a chance to relax and enjoy a portion of spring break at the world famous San Diego Zoo on Monday before heading to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the Arizona State Invitational next week as part of the 10-day trip.
