Loring Wins at Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Mitch Loring ran his way to a victory on Thursday night at the 84th Kansas Relays while a handful of other Wildcats put strong performances together for the Kansas State track and field team.

Loring ran a new personal best time of 3:57.61 while winning the 1,500 meters by just over a second holding of Eastern Illinois’ Graham Morris. He was not the only distance runner to see success as Kyle Hanson finished third in the men’s 800 meters clocking in at 1:54.24 for a new personal best while winning his heat.

Also posting a new personal record for the Wildcats was thrower Ali Pistora. She finished seventh in the women’s hammer throw with her mark of 169-09. For the men, Tomaz Bogovic finished sixth in the hammer throw.

Thursday marked the conclusion of the combined events with Julia Zeiner and Erica Twiss competing in their first heptathlons as Wildcats. Zeiner finished sixth with her two-day total of 4,649 points, and Twiss claimed eighth at 4,530 points.

Zeiner posted ninth best long jump in a heptathlon in K-State history to open the second day of competition on Thursday with her leap of 18-02.50. Her time of 2:27.15 also ranks 10th for a heptathlon. Twiss ran strong over the two days of competition with her times in all three running events ranking among the top 10 in a K-State heptathlon. Twiss ran 14.50 seconds in the 100 hurdles to open the competition on Wednesday and closed with a time of 2:24.57 in the 800 meters to close.

In the women’s 10,000 meters, Sarah Swenson crossed the line in 38:45.25 to claim 12th place for the Wildcats. Results for the men’s 10,000 meters were not known at press time.

The Wildcats return to action at Memorial Stadium on Friday for preliminaries in running events and a handful of field events.
