Wildcats Tune Up at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Kansas State track and field team participated in the Nebraska Open on Saturday as a final preparation before the Big 12 Championships next week. The Wildcats saw strong performances from their throwers competing and a pair of distance runners put their name on K-State's Top 10.

Sophomore thrower Chelsie Bonds finished fourth in the women's hammer throw to start the day strong for the Wildcats. Bonds' throw of 180-06 placed fourth in the event and puts her ninth on the school list. She improved her previous personal record by more than five feet.

Cole Zenisek posted a personal record himself in the men's javelin with his throw of 199-07 to also place fourth as he surpassed his best mark by five inches.

Beverly Ramos and Martina Tresch ran in the 1,500 meters in an effort to keep their legs fit and fresh for the Big 12 Championships next week where they will run the 5,000 and 3,000 meter steeplechase, respectively. The pair finished first and second with each running a time fast enough to crack the school's Top 10 list. Ramos won with her time of 4:21.24 to claim eighth in K-State history, and Tresch finished right behind with her time of 4:25.43 to hold the 10th spot on the school list.
