MANHATTAN, Kan. – It was a successful opening weekend for the Kansas State track and field team highlighted by the NCAA automatic qualifying mark from Erik Kynard. The Wildcats posted six new personal records for returning student-athletes and saw a number of newcomers put up strong numbers as well at the KSU All-Comers on Saturday.

Kynard soared above the competition clearing 7-05.25 for an automatic mark and a new indoor personal best. He cleared the bar on his first attempt on the first five bars he jumped at. The sophomore finished second at the Big 12 Championship last season and 11th at the NCAA Championship. He failed at his attempt to break the school record missing his three chances at 7-07.00.

Making her debut as a Wildcat, UCLA transfer Ryann Krais won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds just shy of her personal best time at UCLA. Also performing strong for the women, Kim Haberman finished third in the long jump tying her personal best leap of 18-09.00. Denise Baker finished second in the hurdles with freshman Angela Hart behind her for K-State to sweep the top three spots in the event.

On the men’s side, newcomer J.J. Marshall ran fast crossing the line in 6.95 seconds to finish second. Ben Love finished second in the men’s 600 yard dash, and newcomer Blaine Cash finish third in the 300 meters with his time of 35.61 seconds.

Jack Sachse finished right behind him with a new personal record of 2:27.04 to rank ninth in school history. Sam James completed the 1-2-3 sweep also with a personal best time of 2:28.40.
