MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State track and field coach Cliff Rovelto has been selected to lead Team USA this fall at the Pan American Games in Mexico. USA Track & Field announced the coaching staffs for the 2011 Pan Am Games as well as the 2012 Olympic Games in London on Thursday, and Rovelto has been chosen to serve as the men’s head coach at the Pan Am Games.

Rovelto is joined by former George Mason University women’s track and field coach Angie Taylor as the head women’s coach for Team USA in Guadalajara, Mexico, where the Pan Am Games are slated for October 23-29.

This is the seventh time Rovelto has been chosen to serve on a Team USA coaching staff, including the 2005 and 2007 World Outdoor Championships.

Since becoming the head coach at Kansas State in November of 1992, Cliff Rovelto’s men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs have earned 149 All-American certificates and 111 individual conference championships. He has twice been named Big 12 Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year and received five Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

The Pan Am Games pit athletes from all nations in the Americas in a variety of sports similar to the Olympic Games. The Pan Am Games also are held once every four years in the year prior to the Olympics.

One of Rovelto’s pupils will coach Team USA as well as K-State alumna and four-time All-American Gwen Wentland will serve as the women’s assistant coach for jumps at the 2012 Olympics. As a Wildcat, Wentland finished second at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships twice apiece in the high jump. She also is a two-time USA Indoor champion.
