Boglarka Bozzay

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The weekend before the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship is commonly referred to as last chance weekend, and one Kansas State Wildcat is looking to solidify her place on the NCAA performance list and ensure a ticket to the championship meet next week in Idaho. Boglarka Bozzay will run in the 800 meters at the Iowa State NCAA Qualifier on Saturday with her eyes set on improving her already school-record time of 2:05.16.

With a limited number of entrants available for the indoor championship meet, just qualifying for the meet alone is an accomplishment, and Bozzay already stands 10th on the list in the 800 meters. Approximately 16 entrants are allowed in each event, depending on automatic qualifying marks and athletes entered in multiple events.

Last Chance meets and NCAA Qualifiers held this week will generally have athletes ranking in the 10-25 range in their respective events in an effort to hit an automatic qualifying mark or improve their standing and gain entry into the NCAA Championship. Live results for the Iowa State NCAA Qualifier will be available at cyclones.com, and Bozzay’s time will be announced on K-State’s Twitter handle @kstate_gameday.

Bozzay enters the meet fresh off her first Big 12 Conference title after winning the 1,000 meters last weekend in College Station, Texas. Afterward she said the win energized her and enabled her to have something positive to build on when turning her attention to this week and the NCAA Championship for her other event.

“I wanted to run the school record, but with it being Big 12’s, I knew it was more important to get the win,” Bozzay said at the Big 12 Championship. “It’s my first win! I’m excited, definitely. This makes me really excited, and I’m ready to focus on the 800 now for NCAA’s and outdoors.”
