Ramos Set to Run at Alex Wilson Invite

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State senior Beverly Ramos will be the only Wildcat in action this weekend as she is set to participate at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Ramos will run the women's 3,000 meters in an effort to improve her best time this season and move up the national standings to solidify entry to the NCAA Championship next week.

The 3000M is set to run at 11:25 a.m. at the Loftus Sports Center on Notre Dame's campus. Ramos currently ranks 16th on the performance list for the 3000M with her time of 9:18.38 at last week's Big 12 Championship where she finished second.

Ramos can move up the descending order list by improving her time and guarantee herself a spot at the field at the NCAA Championship by running an automatic qualifying time of 9:13.00 on Notre Dame's over-sized track.

K-State Coaches Compete at USAChampionships
Three members of Kansas State's staff will be competing professionally this weekend at the USA Track & Field Indoor Combined Events Championships. Assistant coach Tom Pappas will be competing in the heptathlon while Diana Pickler and Bettie Wade - a pair of volunteer coaches - will compete in the pentathlon. Pickler is the two-time defending champion winning the 2009 and '08 titles.

The event will be held at Harry Gladstein Field House in Bloomington, Ind., on the campus of Indiana University. The women's pentathlon is set to begin at 10 a.m. CST with Day 1 of the heptathlon to start at noon.

Wildcats Earn Eighth at Big 12 Championships
The men's and women's track and field teams both finished eighth at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Ames, Iowa. The Wildcat women scored 54 points without winning any events. It marked the first time K-State's women have not won an event at the Big 12 Indoor Championship. The men's team did not win any events either, but both squads still had a handful of strong individual performances.

Erik Kynard, Jr. finished second in the men's high jump while Nina Kokot claimed second in the women's long jump. K-State's mid-distance runners scored in a number of events on both the men's and women's sides, and the throwers had Eric Thomas and Chelsie Bonds each finish third in the weight throw. The multi-athletes also shined with three Wildcats scoring in the heptathlon.

Kokot Jumps into Record Book
Sophomore Nina Kokot made her season debut at the Big 12 Championship with a second-place finish in the long jump. Kokot did more than just score eight points for the Wildcats in the process. She flew to a school-record mark of 20-10.00 (6.35m). Kokot soared past the previous record of 20-06.00 held by Kelly Wenlock, which was set in 1982 at the Big Eight Championship.
