Track and Field Adds Fourth for 2008-09

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State track and field team announces the addition of a fourth newcomer for the 2008-09 season, as Jared Ellsworth signs from Shawnee Mission Northwest. The high school senior signed a letter of intent to compete for the Cats next year as a distance and mid-distance competitor.

“Jared Ellsworth is an intriguing athlete for us,” head cross country coach Michael Smith said. “He won the 6A cross country title in his first year ever participating in cross country. This is somewhat unusual, particularly with the boys.  He has great leg speed for the distance events which is invaluable.”

During the 2007 running of the 6A State cross country meet, Ellsworth ran a time of 16:23.79 to capture the title and aid in his team’s championship win. The team gold earned Shawnee Mission Northwest its 14th-consecutive State victory.

“At the 2007 state track meet, he ran on the state champion 4x400m relay and anchored the second place 4x800m relay for Shawnee Mission Northwest,” Smith said. “We really look forward to seeing how he develops in the 800 and mile over time.”

While with the Cougars track team, Ellsworth has been a member of the school-record relay teams in the 4x400M and 4x800M.
