Wagner Earns All-American Citation

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships opened on Friday afternoon at the Randal Tyson Track Center and Kansas State extended an All-American streak during the first day.

 

Senior Kaylene Wagner capped her lone indoor campaign with K-State with an eighth-place clearance in the high jump of 6-00.00. The Goleta, Calif., native earned the 10th high jump All-American citation in school history and the first since 2003 when Morgan High finished sixth with a clearance of 6-00.00.

 

The Kansas State women have now earned at least one All-American honor in 24 consecutive NCAA Indoor Championships.

 

Sophomore Morgan Bonds finished 19th in the preliminaries of the women’s 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:10.29. Bonds was making a bid to become just the second K-State female to earn All-American honors in the 800.

 

K-State athletes competing on Saturday are: sophomore Loren Groves (women’s weight throw; 2 p.m.), sophomore Scott Sellers (men’s high jump; 4:45 p.m.) and junior Marianne Schlachter (women’s triple jump; 5:30 p.m.).

 

The Wildcats will conclude competition at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The meet is being broadcast live on www.ESPN360.com. Saturday’s action on ESPN360 will begin at 4:30 p.m.
