MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State track and field team is ready to turn its attention to the outdoor season after a small group took on the best of the best at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last week in Idaho. The team will send a pack of Wildcats this time to the Tulsa Duels for the first outdoor action of the season.

K-State will have the majority of its throwers competing this weekend with the hammer throw and javelin being held Friday in Stillwater, Okla. The rest of the group will compete on Saturday in Tulsa at the Golden Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Wildcats have traditionally opened their outdoor season at this meet, but did not last year when they went on a western swing to meets hosted by Arizona and Arizona State.

Another area the Wildcats will be competing in this weekend will be the distance events. K-State will run in both mid-distance events as well as the 3,000 meters. The Wildcats will also have a group competing in the 400 meters and 200 meters. K-State will also field a men’s and women’s 4x400 relay team at the Tulsa Duels. The Wildcats will be up against some strong opponents with the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys also in the field, and both teams boast solid distance programs.

This weekend starts the countdown to the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which the Wildcats will host at R.V. Christian Track and Field on May 11-13.
