Women Rank No. 11 in Outdoor Preseason Rankings

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The K-State Track and Field women slotted in at No. 11 in the preseason edition of the NCAA Division I Outdoor National Team Rankings, announced earlier today by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Finishing last year's outdoor season with a 19th-place finish at NCAAs, the Wildcat women are one of six Big 12 women's squads to hold a spot in the national top-25.

Behind only No. 3 Texas and No. 10 Baylor in regards to conference foes, the Wildcats return four outdoor All-Americans in Tia' Gamble, Sonia Gaskin, Sara Savatovic and Alyx Treasure. K-State will also welcome indoor All-Americans Akela Jones, A'Keyla Mitchell and Kim Williamson to their first outdoor action with the `Cats.

Since the computer rankings began in 2008, the Wildcat women have been ranked in the outdoor national top-25 once prior to the 2015 outdoor season. The No. 11-ranking is the highest-ever for a women's squad, besting the previous high of No. 15 earned in the first week edition of the rankings in 2012.

On the men's side, the Wildcats open the rankings at No. 85 in the country.

Rankings, which will be released every Monday until the end of the outdoor season, are based off of solely outdoor marks from past seasons, as well as outdoor marks from the current season, with notable performances from current freshmen and transfers weighing heavily in a school's ability to move up and down the rankings.

K-State continues its 2015 outdoor campaign this weekend at the ESU Relays in Emporia, Kansas, on Saturday, March 28. For more information on the Wildcats' upcoming road meet, visit www.k-statesports.com.
