Wildcats Qualify Two for Saturday Finals at Relays

AUSTIN, Texas Kansas State advanced two running entries to the finals of the Texas Relays, as junior Mike Myer and the women’s 4x400M qualified on Friday. In field events, the Wildcats notched top 10 finishes in fields containing some of the nation’s elite.


As the men’s lone competitor on the day, junior Myer took first in the third of seven heats in the 100M. He raced to a time of 10.41 to be eligible for the final scheduled for 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. Myer’s time discounts as a regional mark due to a 4.9 meters per second wind that pushed him to the fifth-fastest preliminary time out of 46 individuals.


The Wildcat women raced to their first regional mark in the 4x400M relay as the quartet clocked a time of 3:40.38. The team of Tiara Walpool, Donniece Parrish, Marnyka Honeycutt and Morgan Bonds finished fifth out of 34 teams in the University/College division. Their season-leading time currently ranks as the 10th best mark in school history and is listed as the 10th best in the nation among regional qualifiers. The finals of the women’s 4x400M relay are slated for a 4:25 p.m. start.


In the section A running of the women’s long jump, K-State’s Nina Kokot and Candice Mills finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Freshman Kokot produced a jump for 19-08.00, but was aided by a wind of 5.7 m/s. Mills concluded the meet with a wind-aided mark of 19-01.50.


Senior Thomaida Polydorou was also plagued by gusty winds in her attempts of the section B finals of the women’s triple jump. The native of Limossol, Cyrus, placed fifth with a skip of 41-05.75 with a recorded wind of 6.9 m/s.


Lindsay Grigoriev threw to her third-qualifying mark out of three competitions this year in the women’s discus. The senior, throwing in the section B trials, finished eighth out of 18 with a top toss of 157-08. In the pole vault, freshman Alexandra Gonzalez cleared a height of 12-01.50 to finish 12th.


The women’s 4x100M team missed qualifying for the Saturday finals after crossing the line in 46.80.


Saturday’s events from the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, will include K-State’s three men’s high jumpers, with Lamar Garrett and Michael Healey participating in section B and Scott Sellers jumping in section A. In track finals, the women’s 4x200M relay, as well as Myer and the women’s 4x400M team, will compete. Live results can be found at either www.texassports.com or www.deltatiming.com.
