Wildcats Run Across Nation

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Kansas State track and field will spread across the country again this week looking for more regional qualifying marks and taking on rival Kansas in the 82nd Annual Kansas Relays. This week will also provide the first opportunity for some of the combined event athletes to test their progress in the heptathlon and decathlon.

The Wildcats will send three multi-event specialists to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Combined Event. Stephanie Hejde will participate in her first full heptathlon of the outdoor season while Adam Fretwell and Mantas Silkauskas will have their first decathlon of the season.

All three have been participating in multiple individual events at previous meets in preparation for the two-day combined event. Last season, Hejde finished fifth at the Big 12 Championship in the heptathlon. Fretwell also finished fifth in the decathlon. Silkauskas proved he is capable of competing with the top athletes in the conference finishing seventh during the indoor season in the heptathlon as a true freshman.

One Wildcat will travel to participate in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday. Beverly Ramos will compete in the women’s invitational 10,000 meters. This will be her first time running the 10,000 meters in her career at K-State, but her experience in other distance events and on the cross country team could aide in her preparation for this week.

A large group of Wildcats will make the trek down I-70 to Lawrence to take part in the Kansas Relays. The four-day event is held annually at Memorial Stadium, and the Wildcats will take to the track and field on Day Two of action on Thursday.

Admission to the Kansas Relays is $10 for the entire event. A discount rate will be applied to all orders of 10 or more admission buttons. Discount buttons for senior citizens and students with a valid ID are $5. Children under five and military personnel are admitted for free. A Family Pack with two adult and two student passes is available for $20.
