Wildcats Post Three Wins Thursday

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas State Wildcats closed Thursday's action at the 83rd Annual Kansas Relays with a strong showing from a pair of throwers, mid-distance and distance runners. Eric Thomas and Chelsie Bonds both posted new personal records in the hammer throw for the Wildcats while Danny Schneider and Laura Lee Baird each won their events.

Schneider ran a personal best time of 1:53.85 to win the men's 800 meters while Baird tallied her first win as a Wildcat winning the women's 1,500M with a time of 4:43.77.

Sydney Messick won the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 35:46.02 in her first collegiate 10,000M outdoors. The time ranks 10th in school history as well. She was followed closely behind by Alyssa Bellinder in second place clocking in at 36:37.43 just missing our personal best time.

In the hammer throw Thomas posted a 171-09 to finish 11th overall and move closer to ninth in school history as he already held the 10th spot on the list. Sophomore Chelsie Bonds finished seventh in the women's hammer throw with her throw of 175-05 improving her best throw by 5-01.

Freshman Isaac Mallory competed in his first decathlon scoring 6,165 points to finish fifth. His pole vault of 15-09.00 ties K-State junior Moritz Cleve for the best pole vault in school history in a decathlon as this was Mallory's specialty during high school. Still raw in a number of the disciplines, Mallory did manage to posted strong numbers in some of the events. He leapt 22-03.75 in the long jump and close with a time of 4:46.50 in the 1,500 meters. Mallory's score of 6,165 ranks ninth in the Big 12 so far this season.

K-State will continue a busy schedule at the Kansas Relays competing in 16 events on Friday. Live results will be available at www.kuathletics.com for fans wanting to follow the action.
