Wildcats Excel at Trio of Meets

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State track and field team had a busy day across the country on Thursday competing in three different meets. Beverly Ramos posted an NCAA Regional qualifying mark at the Mt. SAC Relays while three Wildcats excelled at the LSU Combined Event. Also a handful of athletes competed in day two of the Kansas Relays.


Ramos was the only Wildcat competing at the Mt. SAC Relays finishing seventh in the Women’s Invitational 10,000 meters against some of the top distance runners in the nation. It was her first time running the 10,000 during the outdoor season and she posted an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 33:51.44.


Stephanie Hejde is competing in the heptathlon at the LSU Combined Event in Baton Rouge this week while the duo of Adam Fretwell and Mantas Silkauskas are taking on the field in the decathlon. Day One of the event was a success for all three.


Hejde finished third in two of the four events held on Thursday posting a time of 26.33 seconds in the 200 meters. She also had a throw of 36-05.00 in the shot put to finish third. After the first day of competition, Hejde found herself in third place with 2,744 points.


For the men, Silkauskas finished first or second in all five events on Thursday. Fretwell frequently found himself near the top in each event as well to stand in fourth after the first five events with 3,473 points.


Silkauskas dominated in the running events winning the 100 meters and 400 meters. He also claimed the long jump and scored 3,970 points on the first day to hold a more than 200-point lead.


The trio of combined specialists will complete the LSU Combined Event on Friday from Bernie Moore Track Stadium.


At the Kansas Relays, Alyssa Bellinder ran in the women’s 10,000 meters and finished second with her time of 36:32.95. It was Bellinder’s first attempt at running the event in her outdoor career. Kevin Edwards ran in the men’s 10,000 meters for the Wildcats and crossed the line in 33:51.63.


Amanda Boor tallied a throw of 159-05 in the hammer throw to finish seventh. Ali Pistora posted a career best hurling the hammer 155-11 to finish ninth. In the men’s hammer throw, Nate Brummet led K-State’s performers with a throw of 172-11 to finish 12th. Eric Thomas passed his career best by one inch finishing 15th at 166-07.


In the men’s unseeded 800 meters, Jacob Davies came in fourth for K-State posting a time of 1:54.53. He was less than one second from cutting into his personal best time.
