Sellers Named Field Scholar of the Year

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After a stellar year for the Kansas State track and field team, the Wildcats continue to pour in academic recognition for their hard work in the classroom again led by Scott Sellers. Sellers received the 2009 Division I Outdoor Field Scholar of the Year from the USTFCCCA.

Sellers tallied a 3.617 cumulative GPA in business and claimed the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the high jump to garner the award. This award adds to his long list of academic awards for his senior season after being selected to ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team as well as Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

He is joined by a number of teammates on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team with six more male Wildcats and four women making the grade.

Moritz Cleve, Jason Collett, Rok Deranic, Michael Healey, Jack Sachse and Cameron Traxson join Sellers on the men’s team while the group of Loren Groves, Nina Kokot, Ali Pistora and Beverly Ramos represent K-State on the women’s academic team.

To be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Indoor provisional or automatic qualifying standard or the NCAA Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.

Sellers is now a four-time recipient of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award while Groves has received the honor three times. Derzanic, Healey, Kokot, Pistora and Traxson all are honored for a second straight year, and the pair of Collett and Sachse each receive their first award.
