MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Track and Field head coach Cliff Rovelto, along with former Wildcat All-American Erik Kynard, will represent the Americas this weekend at the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakech, Morocco. The two-day event, set to start tomorrow, Sept. 13, pits Africa, the Americas, Asia/Pacific countries and Europe against one another. The Americas will be composed of athletes from NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean track and field confederations) and South America.

For Rovelto, he joins the staff as a jumps coach. This is his second stint as a coach on the international stage this year, as he led former Wildcat Ryann Krais and six other Team USA heptathletes at the Thorpe Cup this past July. Overall, it is the Wildcat head coach’s 10th appearance as a coach in international competition - he was also on staff for the Americas the last time the Continental Cup was held in 2010.

In the high jump, Kynard will compete against a stacked field of eight that includes the top-three high jumpers in the world currently – Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim, Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko and Russia’s Ivan Ukhov. The Toledo, Ohio, native will team up with former NCAA rival, and No. 6-ranked,  Derek Drouin of Canada in hopes of securing the Americas’ first top finish in the event since the United States’ Charles Austin took first in 1998.

Action in the high jump is set to start tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. CT and can be followed along at the Continental Cup home page on Updates on Kynard can also be found by following @kstate_gameday and for more information on this weekend’s meet visit
