MANHATTAN, Kan. - Junior Martina Tresch set a school best time for the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, as she finished in 10th place with a time of 20:58. Tresch's time of 20:58 is eight seconds faster than the time Amy Mortimer set (21:06) in 2002.

K-State head coach Michael Smith was very pleased with Tresch's performance and effort today.

"I thought she ran great, it was a great opening 6K race for her," Smith said. "She competed very well and executed our game plan."

The women's team finished in 20th place in a competition packed with elite schools. Senior Boglarka Bozzay finished in 86th place in 22:09. In their first career 6K race, the freshmen duo of Laura Galvan and Erika Schiller finished in 121st and 184th, respectively. Junior Laura Lee Baird crossed the line in 194th place.

"It was really important for us to find out where our team is," Tresch said. "It was one of the bigger competitions today and we faced some pretty good schools."

The men's team finished the day in 24th place. Senior Armando Del Valle finished the race in 25:59, which was good for a 127th place finish. Senior Phillip Banowetz finished in 153rd place with a time of 26:21.

"Armando did good in the race and pushed himself well today," Smith said.

The cross country teams next compete on October 16, when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind for the Pre-National races.
